For some time I’ve been searching around for a good granola recipe that has flavour to satisfy my tastebuds in the morning, whilst also being lower in sugar content compared to the store bought options available…
Right now this chocolate orange granola is my go-to option in the morning.
With a good mix of protein, fats and slow release carbohydrates this breakfast is going to keep you feeling satisfied throughout the morning.
Best served with greek or natural yogurt.
Try making a batch of this over the weekend to have ready to go on those busy weekday mornings…
Prep Time – 5 minutes
Cooking Time – 50 minutes
- 500g Porridge Oats
- 150g Walnuts
- 150g Hazelnuts
- 100g Chia Seeds
- 2 tsp Honey
- 2 Oranges
- 50g Dark Chocolate
- 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
Equipment Needed –
Large Mixing Bowl Or Tupperware / Pan / Baking Tray(s) / Baking Paper
Set your oven to 150 degrees or gas mark 2.
Start by adding the coconut oil into a pan, set on a low heat.
When the coconut oil is melted, slice the oranges in half and squeeze the juice into the pan.
Add the honey into the pan and mix together.
Using a large mixing bowl or Tupperware add the porridge oats and chia seeds.
Chop up the walnuts and hazelnuts to your desired consistency and add to the bowl.
Now pour over the coconut oil, orange juice and honey mixture.
Mix all the ingredients together.
Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
Evenly spread the granola mixture across the 2 baking trays.
Add to the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove from the oven and mix to ensure your granola is evenly baked…
Return to the oven and bake for a further 20-25 minutes.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool.
Chop up the dark chocolate and add to the granola.
Store the granola in a airtight container.
This granola is best served with greek or natural yogurt.
